Making a gift from the UK

Every gift, will make a lasting impact!

Thank you for choosing to support Magdalene. Every donation, large or small, helps us preserve our heritage, support students, and sustain the College for future generations.

There are several ways to give, allowing you to choose the method that works best for you.

If you are a UK taxpayer, Gift Aid allows the College to claim an additional 25% on your donation at no extra cost to you. For every £100 you give, Magdalene receives £125. Simply tick the Gift Aid box on our online giving form, direct debit form, or complete our online Gift Aid Declaration Form.

Higher and additional rate taxpayers can also claim tax relief on their donation through self-assessment or by requesting an amendment to their tax code:

• Higher rate (40%) – Claim back £25 on a £100 donation (total cost to you: £75)
• Additional rate (45%) – Claim back £31.25 on a £100 donation (total cost to you: £68.75)

To make a donation by credit card, please call the Alumni and Development Office on 01223 332104. All major cards are accepted except American Express.

You can send a cheque made payable to Magdalene College to the Alumni and Development Office. If you have a CAF or Sovereign account, you can donate via voucher (Gift Aid cannot be claimed on CAF gifts).

To donate by bank transfer, please contact the Alumni and Development Office for account details.

If your employer offers a Give As You Earn scheme, you can donate directly from your salary before tax, making your gift more cost-effective.

Your employer may operate a Give as You Earn Scheme. Payroll-giving donations are made from your income before deducting tax, this provides you with a saving as you donate before your tax is calculated.

Donating shares is a tax-efficient way to support Magdalene. You won’t pay capital gains tax on donated shares, and you can claim income tax relief by deducting the value from your total taxable income. For details, please contact the Alumni and Development Office.

Support Magdalene in other ways by donating books to the New Library or hosting an event. If you would like to discuss a gift in kind, please contact the Alumni and Development Office.
