Financial Hardship

It is common for students to face financial difficulties at some point during their studies.

If you’re finding it difficult to manage financially, especially due to unexpected circumstances, there are several ways we can help.

The College has a Student Support Fund to provide financial assistance for students facing unforeseen hardship. If you’re struggling, speak to your Tutor, who can help you apply.

For more significant financial difficulties, your Tutor may suggest applying for support from the Undergraduate Financial Assistance Fund.

The Undergraduate Financial Assistance Fund is to support undergraduate students who face unexpected financial difficulties, helping them to continue and complete their studies. For the 2024/25 academic year, full-time students can apply for awards of up to £3,000, while part-time students may receive up to £1,500. The Postgraduate Financial Assistance Fund is available to support current postgraduate students facing unexpected financial difficulties, helping them to continue and complete their studies.

For the 2024/25 academic year, full-time postgraduate students can apply for awards of up to £3,000, while part-time students may receive up to £1,500. To qualify, students must be experiencing financial hardship that could not have been anticipated or planned for during their time at the University. Find out more on the Postgraduate Financial Assistance Fund page.

The Postgraduate Tutor's Research Fund can help cover costs for conference trips or research data collection, depending on available funds. If you are away on a research trip for more than two weeks, you may also be eligible for a partial rebate on your College room rent. For more information contact the Academic Office.

In cases of extreme unforseeable financial hardship, it may be possible to apply to the University for a remission of tuition fees for one or more terms. You should discuss this option with your Tutor if you think you might be eligible. For more information contact the Academic Office.
