Arts and Humanities Essay Competition 2023 prize-giving

The winners of the inaugural Arts and Humanities Essay Competition visited Magdalene College on 15 September 2023 for a prize-giving celebration in the Master’s Garden.

Earlier this year, a panel of Magdalene Fellows selected the best entries to the Arts and Humanities Essay Competition. The winning essays encompassed a variety of topics, from the relationship between artificial intelligence and creative industries, to the merits of English as an ‘international language’. While the essays were marked blindly, the judges were delighted to meet the authors of the prize-winning essays.

The Master, Sir Christopher Greenwood, presented each student with a certificate and congratulated them on their achievements. The Master encouraged the winners to aim high and aspire to competitive universities, reiterating that their essays were selected as the best from over 110 high-quality entries.

As well as attending the prize-giving, the winners and their parents also made the most of their time in Cambridge by exploring Magdalene and other Colleges as part of the University Open Day. The students spoke to Fellows, members of the Admissions Team, and Student Ambassadors, to learn more about the application process and courses of study available at Cambridge.
