Fellows
The Rt Hon Lord Judge
It is with great sadness that the College has learned of the death, on 7 November 2023, of the Right Honourable Lord Judge, Honorary Fellow.
Igor Judge came up to Magdalene in 1959 and read History and Law. He went on to a distinguished career at the Bar, becoming a High Court Judge in 1988, a Lord Justice of Appeal in 1996 and Lord Chief Justice in 2008. Following his retirement in 2013, he was Convenor of the Crossbench peers in the House of Lords and wrote extensively about Magna Carta and the English legal system.
The Master, Sir Christopher Greenwood, has made the following statement:
“Igor Judge was one of the most distinguished public servants of his generation. A great lawyer, he was a popular and respected Lord Chief Justice and later an energetic Convenor of the Crossbench peers. The most eminent of Mickey Dias’s former pupils, he was a loyal friend to Magdalene throughout his adult life and will be much missed. The College sends its deepest condolences to his widow, Judith, and to all his family.”
