Season’s Greetings from all at Magdalene
Dear Members and Friends of Magdalene,
This term, busy as it has been, has gone very quickly. It seems like only a few days ago we were welcoming a new cohort of freshers, who have already started to make their mark in College. “Formals” in our beautiful candlelit Hall have been very popular and Members of the College have been fully involved in a wide range of activities. The Gallery has hosted a superb exhibition to mark the centenary of George Mallory’s death on Everest (coinciding with the discovery of partial remains of his fellow climber Sandy Irvine; we remain eager to see whether the camera they took with them may now be found and at last resolve the question whether they reached the summit). Another exhibition of Nigel Hall’s abstract sculptures and drawings has also proved very popular.
Advent carols in the Chapel were again packed. Unlike last year, this time they actually took place in Advent and were followed (four days later, such is the speed at which time moves here) by a Christmas carol service in St Giles’s church and the popular London Christmas concert, held this year at the beautiful Church of the Annunciation near Marble Arch.
Bathed in winter sunshine, the College has looked especially beautiful these last few days. But again a sad lack of snow.
Sue and I would like to wish all of you a very Happy Christmas and a good 2025.
Sir Christopher Greenwood
Master
