Lida Lopes Cardozo Kindersley MBE is a highly respected letter-cutter, typeface designer, author, and publisher. She runs the Cardozo Kindersley Workshop in Cambridge, where she has become one of the leading figures in contemporary letter-cutting in the UK. Renowned for her commitment to promoting high standards of lettering, she has created inscriptions, plaques, sundials, and memorials in stone, slate, and other materials that can be found across the UK and internationally.
Among her notable commissions are the ledger stone marking the grave of William Blake at Bunhill Fields and the main gates of the British Library.
Founded by Lida and David, the Cardozo Kindersley Workshop has been based in a former Victorian school building in Cambridge since 1977. The workshop continues to uphold the craft tradition, training apprentices in hand-cut lettering through a three-year residency.
Together, Lida and David published extensively on lettering and the value of apprenticeship. Lida has continued to write and publish on these themes through the Cardozo Kindersley imprint, contributing significantly to the preservation and advancement of this specialised art form.
